AW SHUCKS graduated racing 6 furlongs at the Fair Grounds earlier this month. He wasted no time returning to the winner's circle running back in a couple of weeks to win back to back, This time he sprinted 5 1/2 furlongs in an off the turf race. He cased the pace, was floated 4 wide (literally on the off track) and still took command to win by 5 1/2 lengths. He is owned by his breeder Mark Deckert and his trainer Ron Faucheux.
Making his first lifetime start, C`MON VE found the winner's circle to his liking as well. Also sprinting 5 1/2 on a race taken off the turf, he went right to the lead and stayed there to win by a length. Louisiana Derby Day at the Fair Grounds is always the highlight of the season. It also proved a highlight for Clear Creek Stud and it’s stallions. Brittlyn Stable’s Testing One Two got the day off to a good start by easily capturing the Crescent City Oaks by a comfortable three plus lengths. The daughter of Star Guitar previously won the Louisiana Jewel Stakes and the Take Charge Brandi Stakes, both run at Delta Downs. The addition of the Crescent City Oaks sets her record so far at four wins and a third from six starts and earnings of just short of $200,000. Star Guitar is the all time leading money winning Accredited Louisiana Bred with more than $1.7 million in earnings.
The Costa Rising Stakes, at about five and one half furlongs on the turf had a full field of sprinters, some trying the turf for the first time. Custom For Carlos’ son, Monte Man raced just off the pace for the early part of the race then closed strongly in the middle of the Fair Grounds track to chase down the early leaders and win going away as they neared the finish line. It was Monte Man’s fourth straight win since being in the Ron Faucheux barn having previously won two allowance races at the Fair Grounds and the Louisiana Premier Night Sprint at Delta Downs. Monte Man is now a winner of seven races from twenty-five starts and has earned $262,055, the majority of it for the Ivery Sisters Racing. Also in the Costa Rising Stakes, Rock N Sake, the fast closing son of Half Ours got up for second by 1 1/4 lengths and increased his earnings to $219,395. OUR WILD DANCER won his 3rd start for his original set of connections and his 4th start for his new connections - trainer Eduardo Ramirez
and owner Red Rose Racing. The 5-year-old gelding raced all over the track but got his head in front for the win, his 2nd in a row, He sprinted 5 1/2 furlongs on the turf at the Fair Grounds. In his prior win, he raced 6 furlongs on the dirt. This versatile guy has earned over $116,000.
Also sprinting 5 1/2 furlongs on the turf at the Fair Grounds, was fan favorite PARTLY MOCHA who ran second. The multiple stakes-winning gelding has earned over $558,000. Earlier on the card, 3-year-old gelding, Ready Prospector, also by CUSTOM FOR CARLOS, ran second in the La Bred Premier Night Prince S to up his earnings over $115,000. He is a Virginia Lazenby homebred trained by Oscar Modica.
HALF OURS also had a first-time stakes winner as OURS TO RUN relished the slop and splashed to a win in the La Bred Premier Night Matron S by 3/4 of a length. GOOD NEWS for PARTLY MOCHA. Multiple Stakes Winner. now 9 year old, PARTLY MOCHA came from far back in an AOC at Saratoga last summer and timed it to perfection, winning by a head sprinting 5 1/2 furlongs on the turf. He had been a wise claim for the Ramseys and Mike Maker a year ago at Saratoga. Regretably he was claimed out of that race. The good news is that although he did not win at the Fair Grounds today, trainer Mike Maker claimed him back for $40,000. He will race for Mike's owner Michael Hui.

The Star Guitar progeny are picking up in 2018 where they left off in 2017. Having closed out 2017 with a new stakes winner in the Louisiana Futurity on New Year’s Eve, Star Guitar added another stakes win when his Testing One Two won the Take Charge Brandi Stakes at Delta Downs on Friday night. This is, to go along with Testing One Two’s win in 2017 in the Louisiana Jewel Stakes, now gives the sophomore filly a record of three wins from four starts and earnings of $150,135. A homebred for the Brittlyn Stable of Evelyn and Maurice Benoit, Testing One Two is out of the Scat Daddy dam, Yes Sir.
